HWS – TOP DIE WURST LIEGT
The HWS-CREW is part of the second generation of Stuttgart's graffiti scene and has had a significant impact on the city with its images. In doing so, they pursued the goal of constantly raising the bar in terms of quality and quantity. After more than 30 years, the time has now come to look back and document the group's work from 1987 to the present day in a book.
Across 368 pages and 648 photos, the entire spectrum of writing is depicted, including trains, bombings, line productions, and legal surfaces. The close contacts with Basel and Bern are highlighted, as are the crew's formative travels.
With the support of writer Projekt_55, detailed articles, an interview, and numerous anecdotes were produced. Readers are immersed in a time when the whole of Germany sat in front of the TV at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday evenings to watch “Wetten, dass...,” when there were no cell phones or internet, and when you still had to travel from Stuttgart to Munich, Dortmund, or Basel to see graffiti.
Over the years, the young people grew into adults, and while the crew members' hair slowly turned gray, the city's once-gray walls became colorful. As a result, subsequent generations of Stuttgart writers had to come to terms with the fact that free spaces would be extremely rare for them to find.
