DECADES VOL. 2 (2000-2010)

This volume is the second edition of the trilogy DECADES (vol. 1 1990-2000 / vol. 3 2010-2020), which presents 30 years of graffiti in Berlin. With a selection of thousands of photos, a unique image of the development of the graffiti subculture in Berlin is created. In addition, some personal texts by the writers provide an intimate insight into their experiences and perspectives. On the one hand, these texts provide a very vivid picture of the world of the Berlin graffiti scene, and on the other hand, they allow the reader to experience the Berlin of days gone by.
The second volume 2000-2010 contains portraits with many photos and personal texts on the following graffiti writers and crews:
CHIKA, CO2, DIKE, DROW, EHSONE, EXOT, FLS, GATE, HK, KAMEL43, KAZE, METRO, MR.IX, MRN, NERZ, PACK, PAST2, RELAX, RINO, ROGER, SABE, SMASH, SKAR, SKEY, SPAIR, TFZ, TIER + P. BERG special with lyrics by MC BOMBER
The book also contains mixed chapters with hundreds of photos of many other graffiti writers and crews from the 00s. Berlin's graffiti in the '00s was characterized by transformation and further development. Many writers from the 90s gave up painting illegal graffiti, a few stayed and many people, especially from the eastern part of the city, followed. After the ‘wild style dictates’ of the 90s, the forms of letter design are now pluralizing. Repression against illegal graffiti and the professionalization of writers in dealing with it is increasing, and the number of graffiti on trains is rising enormously. A large proportion of the illustrations in the book are therefore again concerned with the discipline of trainwriting.
Another major theme in DECADES 2 is the massive change in Berlin's appearance, which is mainly taking place in the eastern part of the city. The brown, crumbling facades and the gaps between buildings, including the firewalls, are disappearing. With them, graffiti street pieces of an entire decade are lost. Prenzlauer Berg has been particularly hard hit; nowhere else in Berlin is the radical reorganization of the city more evident than here. Berlin is getting its new hip face.
